Sean’s journey in the field of social work is marked by his dedication to giving back in order to preserve and enhance the lives of those struggling with substance abuse and mental health issues. His academic achievements, graduating with honors both in his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in social work from Adelphi University, reflect his commitment to excellence in the field.

During his internship at the Long Island Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (LICAAD) and Network Support Services, Sean actively contributed to 12-week programs designed to support individuals transitioning back into society after periods of incarceration. His role involved facilitating these programs, aiding men and women in overcoming challenges and rebuilding their lives.

As an engaging and knowledgeable speaker, Sean participated in Circles of Support, leveraging his experiences to pay it forward through speaking engagements. Additionally, he shared his insights within the academic realm, serving as a facilitator in Cornell University’s Criminal Justice Program. His focus was on educating others about the complexities of addiction, as well as providing an understanding of the inner workings of correctional and probation parole systems.

Sean’s mantra, “It’s not what you start. It’s what you finish with building a foundation for the rest of our lives,” underscores his belief in the transformative power of perseverance and resilience. In the field, he strives to empower individuals to achieve their dreams, secure employment, find stable housing, and become productive members of society, despite facing numerous obstacles. Sean’s personal experience of being given a chance has fueled his passion for extending the same opportunities to others who are suffering from the disease of addiction.

In his work, Sean emphasizes that there are many individuals like himself who have overcome adversity and are now actively contributing to making their dreams a reality. His overarching message is one of care and support, encapsulated in Legacy Healing’s mission statement, “Ladies and gentlemen, caring for ladies and gentlemen.” This reflects Sean’s belief in the inherent dignity and worth of every individual, and his commitment to fostering a community where compassion and assistance are extended to all.
