Ecstasy Effects, Signs, and Symptoms

Table of Contents

Ecstasy effects include many long and short-term symptoms that can lead to addiction.

Ecstasy affects not only the mind but also the body. It is a dissociative hallucinogenic drug that can have various effects depending on the amount taken.

It can allow the body to have a stimulant type feeling as well as hallucinogenic because of what it is made from. Ecstasy, also known as molly and MDMA was first created in the early 1900s and initially used to help stop internal bleeding, then later as another version of adrenaline and finally for its psychoactive effects.

Ecstasy is no longer used for the reasons stated previously, and is now considered a Schedule I drug which means it has a high potential for abuse and has no medical benefits.

Ecstasy, Molly Side Effects

Symptoms of molly affect the body’s central nervous system. It plays with the serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine in the body which creates different effects throughout the body both physical and mental.

Because of the effects of ecstasy, it can be understood why this drug is popular in the party culture but not everyone realizes the effects it can have on the body and the brain long term.

There are both positive and negative effects on the body. The more positive molly side effects can be noted as:

• Mood arousal
• Sexual arousal
• A sense of wellbeing
• Euphoria
• A sense of excited-ness
• Feeling peace or calm
• Extra sensitivity
• Increased energy
• Increase physical and emotional feelings
• Heightened sociability and closeness
• Relaxation

Other ecstasy effects can create more adverse effects on the body and some of the more negative molly symptoms of molly on the body are:

• Blurry/double vision
• Perfuse sweating
• Loss of control of bodily movements
• Changes in perception
• Dry mouth
• Dehydration
• Empathy
• Mild intoxication
• Muscle tension, especially in the jaw area

Because of how ecstasy affects different levels in the brain, it’s common for individuals to feel depressed and down, even days after using it. The muscle tension can also create sore muscles and pain in the areas where the muscles were tight.

On the other hand, when someone is abusing ecstasy it’s possible to notice symptoms of molly use because of physical and behavioral changes. These can be noted when individuals are using the drug frequently or may be struggling with an addiction to it.

Here are symptoms of molly use on behavior and physical states;

• Paranoia
• Loss of appetite
• Extreme and rapid mood swings
• Depression
• Psychosis
• Insomnia
• Memory loss
• Lethargy
• Fatigue
• Sick often and easily
• Hemorrhaging
• Cardiovascular collapse ( in severe cases)

If you notice certain behavioral changes in someone you suspect to be struggling with an addiction to ecstasy it is important to seek help because getting to them early can help avoid long term effects from the drug on the brain and the body.

Dangers of Molly / Ecstasy

Ecstasy causes the heart rate to increase which can make the body work harder and in the case of individuals who have a heart condition, this can be dangerous.

It also increases the body temperature which can not only cause dehydration but also damage to the liver and the kidney. Individuals taking the drug may forget to drink water and can have a heat stroke or worse.

It also can play a role on the brain because of how it affects serotonin levels and overtime it can reduce serotonin levels and it could take nearly seven years to replace the levels lost due to overuse of the drug.

Overdosing on molly is also a possibility, especially if mixed with other substances. If you believe that someone you know may be struggling with an addiction to ecstasy/molly, seeking help can be a great option through treatment and controlled withdrawal.
