Thomas Jefferson is known as one of our nation’s founding fathers. He was one of the men that signed his name to the Declaration of Independence without knowing whether his death would follow shortly after that for treason. Between 1939 and 1943, President Franklin D. Roosevelt oversaw the construction of the Jefferson Memorial. The concept of the memorial was built as a way to honor President Jefferson and his incredible contributions to our country. Visitors can learn more about his life, including his often-risqué personal history.

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum

The National Air and Space Museum is home to numerous exhibits that give visitors a better understanding of the development of aviation and humanity’s further adventures into space. You will see the “Spirit of St. Louis,” which was the plane used by Charles Lindbergh in the first solo transatlantic flight. You will also see the Apollo 11 Command Module, which was used by Buzz Aldrin and Neil Armstrong during their visit to the moon.

United States Botanic Garden
Without question, the United States Botanic Garden is one of the most beautiful places to visit in the Washington, D.C. area. The United States Botanic Garden first opened to the public in 1820. Admission to the gardens is free of charge. However, the operating hours do vary, so you will want to check ahead before your visit.
