As a Christian treatment center, the professionals at Legacy Healing Center in South Florida work with you to help you grow spiritually while in the initial stages of recovery. We are here to supply you with the support that you need to work through your addiction while you become closer to God.
How Are Faith Based Rehabs Different?
At Legacy, we do not believe recovery from addiction has a one-size-fits-all solution. We believe that to overcome your addiction fully, you need to heal in every sense of the word. Our team makes every accommodation for your growing spirituality. We provide you with the opportunity to meet with a staff member in a personal setting to discuss your thoughts on faith and provide you with the guidance that you need to continue to grow toward God.
We help you develop in this regard by providing you with access to different forms of therapy. For example, participating in group therapy is an excellent way to gain a deeper understanding and appreciation for your convictions about topics related to addiction and recovery, as well as listen to the thoughts and the feelings of others.
What Does the Bible Say About Addiction?
For thousands of years, the Bible has served as a beacon for Christians who are yearning to become closer to God. It is filled with stories of victories over Satan and the struggles that are often associated with fighting against the evils that exist in our world.
One of the areas we strive to teach at Legacy is that to overcome addiction, you need to change the people, places, and things that influence you toward addiction. 1 Corinthians 15:33 states, “Do not be deceived: ‘Bad company ruins good morals.”

This is something that you should always keep in the forefront of your thoughts as you work your way through the different aspects of your recovery. You should distance yourself from people who do not have the best intentions and relish the attention of the people who are here to support you.
James 4:7 further states, “Submit yourself therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.”
When you trust that God has a plan for you and He will help you stay away from the temptations that the devil is setting before you in the form of drugs or alcohol, you will be able to overcome any obstacle. By praying and looking to the future, you are setting yourself up for a better spiritual relationship with your creator.
Sober Friendly Attractions Near Charleston
You can visit several places in and around the Charleston area that will help keep you centered and focused on your newfound sobriety and faith.
We always caution our alumni to put a healthy routine of attending regular meetings before they start to venture out. Putting the pieces of your home schedule together little by little will help you to avoid feeling completely overwhelmed. However, once you feel comfortable, here are a few places that we suggest you consider visiting.
St. Philip’s Episcopal Church
St. Philip’s Episcopal Church was originally established in 1681, making it South Carolina’s oldest European-American faith congregations. Although the original church was burned down in 1835, the church’s spirit is still very much present. The community at St. Philip’s is always available to support and encourage current members and newcomers alike. This church is also known for its notable burials in its cemetery. Judith Smith Ladson, a leading colonial society figure, and John C. Calhoun, the seventh vice president of the United States, are both buried here.
You can visit St. Philips Episcopal Church at 142 Church Street, Charleston, South Carolina 29401.
Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist
The Roman Catholic mother church of the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist is located in the heart of Charleston. This breathtaking cathedral was designed in the Gothic Revival style and first opened for worship in 1907. There are several smaller chapels located inside the cathedral and beautiful stained-glass windows that were painstakingly put together over the last century. Services are held every day of the week to allow private prayer when mass is not in session.
The Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist is located at 120 Broad Street, Charleston, South Carolina 29401.
Unitarian Church in Charleston
The Unitarian Church in Charleston is another example of a house of worship whose roots are deeply seeded in the city. The church was completed in 1787 and has grown to serve thousands of worshipers in the Charleston region. During the Civil War, the church had to temporarily shut down as a result of the fighting and did not reopen until the Union troops took back the city in February 1865. Today, the church graveyard is part of a walking haunted history tour.
The Unitarian Church in Charleston is located at 4 Archdale Street, Charleston, South Carolina 29401.
