What Is Rehab Like?

What Do you Do During Rehab?

One of the common questions that we receive among prospective behavioral health patients is what they can expect when they attend one of our treatment centers. It is an understandable question. When you decide to leave the influence of drugs or alcohol in your past, there may be an element of fear or apprehension at the new path that your life is about to take. You want to know more about what you will experience on a daily basis while you with us.

The professionals at Legacy Healing Center have put together a variety of programs designed to suit the needs of any person that is combatting addiction to drugs or alcohol. We work hand-in-hand with you to help you learn more about the root cause of your addiction and the steps that you can take to remain sober.

Something that you need to consider before you begin your rehab program is whether or not your journey should start with detox. If you are still in active addiction, we strongly recommend that you go through our detox program. Detox provides you with a safe way to remove the influence of drugs or alcohol from your body.

What Does the Average Day Look Like While in Rehab?

A typical day in rehab will depend on the type of program you choose. If you opt to enroll in our Partial Hospitalization Program, also known as PHP, you will spend six days and nights per week at our facility working on your recovery. We also have the option to register for our Outpatient Program which provides you with the flexibility to come to our treatment facility at designated times and days for treatment.

What Type of Therapy Happens at Rehab?

Therapy is the cornerstone of your recovery journey. Regardless of which course of treatment you settle on, you will take part in different forms of therapy as well as 12-step meetings.

Our highly experienced behavioral health professionals utilize the most well-researched forms of therapy for the treatment of addiction today.  These include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Enhancement Therapy, and others.   The two traditional settings that you will experience these types of therapy in are group therapy and one on one therapy. Our facility also offers other types of counseling. For example, we realize that the disease of addiction tends to affect every member of your family as well as close friends. If addiction has negatively impacted your relationship with your family, we provide you with the opportunity to take part in family therapy. This form of therapy gives you the chance to begin to connect with the important people in your life and talk to them in a neutral environment.

Group Therapy

Group therapy plays an important role in your overall recovery. The premise behind group therapy is that it is meant to be used as a support tool. Each session is guided by a trained member of our team and generally covers a variety of different topics including the 12-steps. During group therapy, you have the chance to share your own story, experiences, and thoughts on recovery. While you are always encouraged to share, sometimes, it is just as important to listen to the words of your fellow rehab attendees.

One on One Therapy

Individual therapy is your personal time with one of our counselors. During these meetings, you can speak about aspects of your life that you may not feel comfortable talking about in a group setting. It is an ideal time to let us know how you are feeling in the progress you are making while you are at our facility. If you need to adjust your treatment plan, we can speak with you about those changes.

Keep in mind that our team is always available to support you once you complete your rehab program. Our Aftercare Program is uniquely designed for patients that have been through rehab but would still like help regarding therapy or assistance in finding meetings. Any time you need our help, we will always be there for you.

Sober Friendly Attractions in Tallahassee

Once you’ve successfully completed your treatment in one of Legacy Healing Centers’ South Florida locations, it will be time for you to return to Tallahassee and reintegrate into your life at home.   It’s critically important to stay active and engaged in your recovery and keep practicing all the healthy new behaviors and coping skills that you’ve learned.  For many people, this means finding new friends and new things to do that don’t involve drugs and alcohol.  Fortunately, Tallahassee has many sober friendly attractions that can help in this regard.  Here are a few suggestions:

St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge

There is tremendous beauty around Tallahassee. St. Marks National Wildlife Refuge is a perfect example of an outdoor venue that any member of your family is sure to enjoy. The refuge is open seven days a week and on weekdays it opens as early as 8 AM. The area is not only filled with incredible views but also features different trails runners will love. Make sure to keep both eyes open while you are exploring these trails to look out for birds, flowers, and even alligators.

Railroad Square Art District

Tallahassee is also home to the Railroad Square Art District. This section of the city features a number of entertainment options including options for delicious restaurants, charming art galleries, and even arcades. The Railroad Square Art District is hosts special events throughout the year. For example, during Thursdays in the summer, you can go and listen to great Latin and Caribbean music for free. The hours of operation for these different stores and attractions are all different so it is always prudent to call ahead to confirm when they are open.
