Opioid Rehab for Newark, New Jersey Residents

Opioid Epidemic

The current opioid epidemic in the United States first took hold during the 1990s. This epidemic developed as a result of an announcement from different pharmaceutical companies that there was a very low likelihood that patients would develop an addiction due to taking opioids. As a result, doctors began to prescribe the drug more for injuries or recovery needs. The opioid epidemic took hold at this point in our history and seemingly never looked back.

If you find yourself struggling with an addiction to opioids, you should know that you are not alone. The addiction experts at the Legacy Healing Center in South Florida are here to help Newark residents navigate through their addiction and help them develop a more prosperous and happier life.

History Of Opioid Addiction

Sadly, many people are unaware of the impact the opioid epidemic has had on Americans. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, an average of 130 people die You may be surprised to learn that from the initial development of opium through the 1800s, the drug was used recreationally. During those times, the medical community and society as a whole were unaware of the fact that the drug was highly addictive. During the American Civil War, doctors realized that opium in the form of morphine could be used as a way to help provide relief to wounded soldiers. Unknowingly, however, field doctors were sending soldiers home with the addictive substance.

How To Detox From Opioids

It’s important to remember that there is no “easy” way to detox from opioids. However, there is a healthy way to complete the detox process. We never recommend that you attempt to detox from opioids unless you are in a safe environment and surrounded by trained medical professionals to help you navigate the physical and psychological consequences of detox.

When you are going through the withdrawal process, you will likely feel generally sick within a few hours of the last time you consumed your opioid form of choice. Psychologically, you will probably feel an increase in anxiety and general unease. It would help if you always focused on the fact that these symptoms will not last forever. However, you will feel very uncomfortable over the next few days to a week.

At Legacy Healing, we try to do everything we can to help you get through the detox process without an abundance of discomfort. Once detox is done, you can begin to focus on actively participating in your treatment program.
