What Does Alcohol Rehab Consist of?

Built on Legacy’s core values; compassion, commitment, and integrity, Legacy Healing Center is a comprehensive treatment facility that takes special care to guide their patients through their recovery in a relaxing and private atmosphere.
Legacy’s staff are highly trained and experienced therapists that understand how to take care of patients, giving them the opportunity to recover from alcohol addiction in an enjoyable environment with the knowledge, and comfort of the experienced team there to help, and monitor patients each step of the way.
When someone begins treatment for alcohol addiction the first step is to complete a detox program. An addiction to alcohol can be very dangerous for those struggling with this type of addiction. Alcohol, like drugs, causes changes to the brain that makes quitting difficult and results in severe withdrawal symptoms. Because of the difficulty and the severity of the addiction, it is important for individuals to complete a medically assisted detox program such as those found at Legacy Healing Center.
Alcohol is the most commonly abused substance in the United States which has caused it to become one of the main contributors to disease and death in the country. It is difficult for people to admit to having a problem with alcohol, but overcoming denial and admitting there is a problem is the first step to overcoming the addiction and getting life back on track.
First, Alcohol Detox
Detox is the time in which the body is able to rid itself of the physical dependence on alcohol. It is best for a detox to occur in a medical facility where we can provide full-time care. In our medical detox program, we monitor patients 24/7, ensuring their vital signs, pain levels, and overall safety remain within normal limits.
Medical detox is important to ensure that withdrawal symptoms are not too severe. Withdrawal symptoms are commonly felt within 24 hours of beginning the detox and can be intense for 48-72 hours. After that, they can continue for up to a week but with less intensity. Once the alcohol is out of the system and the withdrawal symptoms have ceased, individuals are able to focus on treatment and behavioral therapies to overcome the alcohol use disorder.
Getting to the Root of Alcohol Addiction
While in treatment at Legacy one of the main goals apart from getting sober is getting to the root of the addiction. Getting to the root of the addiction is something that must be explored in order to achieve long-term sobriety. Some of the main room causes of addiction stem directly from development, environment, and biological factors with biology playing the largest role in the cause of addiction. These biological factors can depend on genetics, co-occurring mental disorders, and things that stem from birth.
Developmental causes stem from the possible use of alcohol or drugs during certain stages in life where developmental changes were occurring in the brain, such as in youth. What this means is that if you abused drugs or alcohol or both when you were young, you have a much greater risk of developing an addiction later in life.
Environmental causes stem from things that individuals have experienced in their lives such as trauma that could cause stress. These environmental factors can also mean that there was exposure to substances throughout life, the extent of parental guidance, the possibility of peer pressure, and more.

Overcoming Addiction With Therapy
After successfully detoxing, clients are then recommended to complete an inpatient treatment program that involves them staying around the clock in a treatment facility that is dedicated to freeing the individual of their addiction. This type of treatment involves comprehensive behavioral therapies that allow individuals to learn how to recognize triggers, avoid them, and ultimately deal with them when they are unavoidable.
Opioid treatment gives individuals a clinical type of treatment, helping them go through the 12 steps to sobriety, participate in individual & group therapy as well as build skills that will help repair relationships and general health of the individual.
After completing an inpatient treatment program, Legacy offers outpatient treatment programs to help cement newfound skills from rehab. These types of programs help individuals learn and maintain skills to stay sober while taking back the responsibilities of real life. This type of program does offer community housing as well as individual therapy, group therapy, and 12 step meetings.
