What Is Rehab Like For Charleston, SC Residents? (Alcohol & Drugs)

What Do You Do During Rehab?

Suppose you are struggling with an addiction to drugs or alcohol. In that case, it is time for you to seriously consider going through a treatment program at Legacy Healing Center in South Florida.

What Does the Average Day Look Like While in Rehab?

One of the areas we pride ourselves on involves working with our clients to develop a treatment plan that suits their individual needs. With this in mind, your average day at Legacy may be very different from another person. For example, your schedule for the day will differ if you opt to participate in our inpatient program as opposed to our outpatient program. There are tremendous benefits to each type of program that we offer, so we recommend that you speak to one of our counselors before you finalize your decision.

What Type of Therapy Happens at Rehab?

During your time at Legacy Healing Center, you will have the opportunity to participate in different counseling types that will help come to the root cause of your addiction. Examples of therapy that we offer at Legacy include group therapy, individual therapy, behavioral therapy, and family therapy. Remember, our intake specialists can supply you with more information about any forms of treatment that we offer at our facility.

Group Therapy

Group therapy plays a vital role in your overall recovery. Our group therapy sessions allow you to add your voice to specific discussion topics with other clients at our treatment facility. These guided discussions mimic a 12-step meeting. During these sessions, one of our counselors will conduct a session on a topic associated with addiction. You will have the chance to share your thoughts and feelings about the matter, and then your fellow group attendees will share their views.

Group therapy is an excellent way to develop a system of support. It provides you with a unique opportunity to speak with fellow clients at Legacy and understand that you are not alone in how you are thinking and feeling as you continue to move forward in your recovery. While you don’t always have to share, you are encouraged to as long as you feel comfortable.

One-on-One Therapy

Individual therapy, in many ways, is just as important as group therapy. Do you have traumas in your life that you don’t feel comfortable talking about in a group setting? Would you like to speak to a member of our team about making a change to your treatment plan? One-on-one therapy gives you the perfect opportunity to do that.

Sober Friendly Attractions Near Charleston

After you complete treatment at Legacy Healing Center in South Florida and return home to Charleston, you must take steps to establish a healthy routine. While getting back to visiting your friends or family should certainly rank on your list of things to do, you should always take the time to find local 12-step meetings that you can incorporate into your schedule.

Once you have developed those habits, we recommend exploring some of the sober friendly attractions located in and around Charleston. Here are a few of our suggestions:

Folly Beach Pier

If there was one word that could describe the Charleston area, that would unquestionably be scenic. Folly Beach Pier is located just a short drive away from the middle of Charleston. You could spend an early morning walking the boardwalk’s stretch as the sun comes up, or you could relish in a beautiful sunset at the end of a long day. If you enjoy fishing, there are options at this location for saltwater fishing and a tackle shop that can provide you with everything you need.

You can visit Folly Beach Pier at 101 E. Arctic Avenue, Folly Beach, South Carolina 29439.

Sadly, Charleston also saw its fair share of dark times throughout our history. The city was home to a number of slaves prior to the Civil War. The Old Slave Mart Museum is a unique location in the sense that visitors will gather a firsthand understand of what living as a slave would have been like at the height of slavery. In many cases, the staff at this museum can trace their heritage back to a person that was a slave in Charleston. The hours of operation are sporadic for this location so it’s prude to reach out first.

The Old Slave Mart Museum is located at 6 Chalmers Street, Charleston, South Carolina 29401.

South Carolina Aquarium

Charleston is also home to the South Carolina Aquarium. This beautiful aquarium has exhibits that feature over 5,000 animals, including a touch tank with sea urchins, Atlantic stingrays, and hermit crabs. To get the aquarium’s full scope, you should plan to spend anywhere between two to three hours here. The aquarium is open seven days a week between 9 AM to 4 PM. You will be required to purchase a ticket to get into this venue. However, you can do that ahead of time on their website.

You can visit the South Carolina Aquarium at 100 Aquarium Wharf, Charleston, South Carolina 29401.
