What Is Alcohol Detox Like?

An alcohol addiction can be particularly hard to overcome. There is alcohol seemingly everywhere in our society, from seeing commercials on television to access to alcohol by merely driving down the street to a restaurant or liquor store. When you make the mistake of trying to go through the detox process by yourself, there is the possibility that you will begin to feel so uncomfortable that you will want to give in to addiction because you are not in the type of environment that can help you work through your withdrawal symptoms. When you come to Legacy Healing for your alcohol detox program, we will remove any temptations so that you can focus on getting physically and emotionally better and being more prepared to begin your recovery journey.

Withdrawal symptoms come on fairly quickly. Depending on the severity of your addiction, withdrawal symptoms will begin to develop within a few hours when you consumed your last drink. One of the cunning parts of withdrawal is that it’s impossible to predict how you will feel precisely. There are many people who only ever suffer from mild withdrawal symptoms, including shakiness or sweating. However, in most cases, clients will feel nauseous, increase anxiety, and many other severe withdrawal symptoms.

What Is Drug Detox Like?

Our drug detox program works much in the same way that our alcohol detox program does. When you first reach out to our facility, one of the first things we will do is assess your addiction. We will need to know your drug of choice as well as the severity of your addiction. From there, we can begin to put together a plan to help you navigate what you may experience as your withdrawal symptoms start to set in.

Like an alcohol detox program, most of our clients typically spend a week in our detox program. However, this may change depending on your drug of choice and your addiction. For example, some drugs will linger in your system for a number of days since the last time you consumed them. As a result, it may take a few days for withdrawal symptoms to set in, which could potentially extend your time in detox. Clients have reported that they feel as though they are combatting a bad case of the flu during the height of their withdrawal symptoms. Regardless of how you feel, the Legacy Healing Center team will be with you every moment during your detox plan to ensure that you remain in good health during this time.

How Long Is Detox?

In most cases, our clients do not need to spend any more than a week in a detox program. For both drug and alcohol detox, you will likely experience the worst of your symptoms between the second and the third day. It’s important to note that our team will continue to monitor you and your symptoms to determine the length of time you need in detox. For example, if your symptoms take a severe turn for the worst, we will likely recommend that you spend more time in a detox program. Whereas if you do not experience severe symptoms, you may be able to begin your treatment program sooner rather than later.
