These Long Island Nar-Anon Meetings Provide Valuable Support for Families of Addicts

When a person from Long Island is ready to take steps to enroll in a drug rehab program, their family members are usually over the moon with joy. Their loved one is finally doing what needs to be done to overcome their addiction and Nar-Anon can provide a great support system.

However, simply because a person with addiction makes a move to overcome the addiction does not mean that relationships will automatically be put back together. When a person enrolls in our drug detox or drug rehab program at Legacy Healing Center, we will strongly encourage their family members to attend Nar-Anon meetings. Nar-Anon meetings are specifically designed for people that have been impacted by the addiction of a friend or a loved one which is one of the elements that make them so beneficial.

We offer programs at Legacy Healing Center that can help put family relationships back together using family therapy. During family therapy, you and your loved ones will have the opportunity to communicate with one another in hopes of repairing these critical relationships in your life. It’s important to remember that family therapy will only occur once the client is ready and everyone can have a calm and productive conversation.

How Nar-Anon Helps Recovering Addicts Stay Sober

There are countless ways that going to a regular Nar-Anon meeting can help the family members of a person with drug addiction and the person with the addiction. Here are a few reasons why we believe Nar-Anon meetings are so beneficial:

1. Develop a better understanding of addiction

Addiction is a cunning disease. Unfortunately, many people simply don’t believe that addiction is, in fact, a disease. Attending a Nar-Anon meeting will help you come to a better understanding of addiction to begin to understand why a person with an addiction acts the way that they do at times.

2. Improved communication

Communication, when a person is in active addiction, can be challenging, if not impossible. Nar-Anon meetings can help attendees communicate with their loved ones and find ways to avoid arguments.

3. System of support

It’s important to remember that you are not alone when it comes to how you may think or feel about addiction. From the moment that you walk into a Nar-Anon meeting, you should always feel the love and support of other people in the group.
